Sewn Sandals in San Francisco, USA!

As posted in Facebook & Instagram on October 2022

Warning : Long #senti nobela post :  Last weekend, a dream came true for me! Sewn Sandals had our 1st pop up in San Francisco, USA. This was me. My 24 year old self in San Francisco in 2001, giving a shot at the  American Dream many times but only to realize God has better plans for me in the Philippines. From working in a warehouse packing airplane models to working in a carehome transpo company to studying RadTech in Laguna for 1 sem to enrolling Nursing as a 2nd course just to be able to make it work in the US. But I actually wanted to enroll in Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in SanFo instead! My dream before was to work in Cinderella, SM or Rustan’s as a Fashion Merchandiser. But eventually meeting officers from the same companies for Sewn's opportunity for space and consignment. I did graduated with a Nursing diploma until I got sick with an auto-immune kidney disease and eventually got pregnant with my only daughter. Those aims & challenges led me to a beautiful blessing in disguise called 𝗦𝗲𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹𝘀. I sold pairs to my classmates and friends to augment my income for my tuition fee! Then I joined pop-ups/Bazaars in 2009, and the rest is history. Last weekend , God proved me that that dream can be realized by promoting Philippines  to the world through collaborating with people that has a similar purpose. And that’s where @merkadokultura comes in. #Bayanihan at its finest and connecting to people is so empowering!

Life Lesson : Follow your passion, your heart and your dream but find prupose in it through the people you meet (from shoemakers, to weavers to organizers, to influencers, to our clients ). We may have other plans but God’s plans are always better.

Honestly, from the pandemic, we are still struggling to get up. Pero tayo lang ng tayo kami ni Toby kahit ilang iyak , pawis at dugo (taas ng presyon at menopausal, haha ). Ang hirap mag business! Esp if you started from scratch and still small. I just want to thank my family and friends for always supporting us through the years!

Also, Congratulations to @merkadokultura for a successful weekend in San Francisco, California to celebrate #FilAmHistory month this October!
